The Hosteria Santo Domingo in Mexico City's historical center was founded in 1860. It is part of a 16th Century Convent and it is located near the Plaza Santo Domingo, just 3 blocks from the Zocalo. The papel picado (a traditional folk art from Mexico that involves cutting out intricate patterns on colorful tissue paper), historical photos, period furniture and paintings create a festive historical Mexican atmosphere.
The house specialty is Chiles En Nogada, a poblano pepper stuffed with a sweetish mincemeat mixture, and covered with a creamy walnut sauce and pomegranate seeds.

IAFL travel grant for students
Two scholarship awards are available for postgraduate students to attend the conference and present a paper. The awards reimburse reasonable travel costs up to a maximum of US $1,000 and provide a waiver of conference registration fees.
The scholarships acknowledge the significant contributions made by two scholars to the establishment and promotion of our field. The Malcolm Coulthard Travel Scholarship honors the founding president of the International Association of Forensic Linguists. The Roger Shuy Travel Scholarship honors Professor Shuy for his generous founding gift of a student travel fund.
The awards are available to postgraduate students whose paper has been accepted for presentation at the conference and who present the paper. Preference will be given to applicants who:
- provide evidence of the potential to contribute to the development and promotion of the discipline of forensic linguistics
- would otherwise find travel expenses to the conference prohibitive
- are deserving of financial assistance to attend the conference.
Each application should be in the form of a 400-500 word statement detailing the applicant's qualifications and academic experience and addressing each of the criteria above. The abstract of the paper the applicant intends to present at the conference should also be appended to the email message. A single application will suffice for both scholarships.
Awardees will be chosen by a committee comprising Prof. Edward Finegan (IAFL vice-president); Prof. Philip Gaines (IAFL treasurer); Justice Peter Gray (IAFL executive committee member); Prof. Fernanda López (local organizing committee member).
The deadline for receipt of applications is 15 November 2012. Winners will be announced by 1 February 2013. Applications should be submitted by email to Prof. Finegan <finegan@usc.edu> and will be acknowledged.
