Mexico City is the gateway to the country and a must-see destination for tourists arriving from all over the world. Its gastronomic and cultural attractions and its surroundings are one of the main reasons for visiting.

The most visited sites in Mexico City are the classic tourist attractions: museums, the Historical Center, Garibaldi, Guadalupe Basilica, and some amusement parks and shopping centers.


Mexico City is one of the 32 federal entities of Mexico.

Capital of the United Mexican States, located in the Valley of Mexico, at an average altitude of 2,240 m. above the sea level.

Area of 1,495 km².

The population is approximately 8.9 million inhabitants, where the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley has more than 22 million inhabitants.

Mexico City occupies the ninth position of the largest and most populated urban agglomerations in the world and the largest in the American continent and the Spanish-speaking world.

Central University City Campus of the UNAM is on UNESCO's World Heritage List since 2007.

Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) is a Mexican public university. It is considered one of the best universities in Latin America for its extensive academic work, as well as one of the most active in artistic and technological matters. With 349,539 students (2016-2017), it is the largest in the country and Latin America, with one of the world's largest campuses.

UNAM's autonomy was granted in 1929 (Universidad nacional Autónoma de México) - freedom to define its own curriculum and manage its own budget.

Engineering Institute

The Engineering Institute of UNAM (II-UNAM) is Mexico's most productive research center in diverse engineering branches. Our community comprises 93 researchers, 95 academic technicians, 409 scholarship holders at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels, and 184 clerical workers. Its facilities include 13 buildings on the UNAM campus in Mexico City, comprising 20,000 m 2 of laboratories, cubicles, common areas, and an auditorium.

The Institute's policy has always been to research to solve general engineering problems, collaborate with government and private entities to improve the national engineering practice, and render engineering services to different social sectors. The Institute has focused on disseminating the result of its research projects to contribute to the national development and society's well-being.

Therefore, some projects are financed with UNAM funds, and others are through research contracts executed with private companies and corporations at their request. Consequently, the II-UNAM is widely recognized.
